Mary Schacter

shacterMary Schacter, a member of the Board of YLTrapped since 2011, served for 15 years from 1989 to 2004 as Education Coordinator for Kids In Crisis, the only shelter of its kind in Connecticut, offering free, round-the-clock help for Connecticut children, teens, and families of all socioeconomic levels dealing with any type of crisis.  Working in collaboration with the Greenwich Public Schools and other schools throughout Connecticut , she ran the Kids In Crisis in-house school program known as STEP and assessed their educational needs.

Born and raised in Greenwich CT, where she has lived for the past 28 years, Mary acquired an Associates degree from Laboratory Institute Merchandising, a Bachelors in Counseling from Keene State University, NH, and a Masters in Education from the University of Bridgeport, after which she did her teaching internship at Western Middle School in Connecticut and completed her practicum as a home economics teacher at Stamford High School.

Mary volunteers at the Rummage Room consignment shop and the Nathaniel Witherell nursing home, and she is a member of the Greenwich Woman’s Club.  The mother of 4 boys, all married, and proud grandmother of one granddaughter, she also loves her dog and enjoys sewing, quilting and knitting.
