YL TRAPPED Hosts Author Kamichi Jackson in April

kendra-book-stackAuthor Kamichi Jackson–former Norwalker and friend to the YL Trapped organization–will be making a virtual visit Wednesday, April 5th to introduce her new book K My Name Is Kendra to members. Classified as “realistic young adult fiction”, Kendra tells the story of a fifteen-year-old African American girl whose life begins to spiral out of control with the return of a long-lost older sister and the unexpected friendship of a celebrity uncle with sketchy intentions. The recently released book was praised by Publishers Weekly (as part of the 2011 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition) as an “emotionally powerful novel “ that “gets right to the essence of what a young adult novel should be”. (Additional reviews)

Each group member will receive her own copy of the book to read within the month of April, after which they will each write a book report to be submitted to the author and used as part of online group discussions held on the popular social booksite Goodreads.

YL TRAPPED’s participation in this event also marks the launch of Jackson’s new teen book club Kendra’s Bookshelf, a reading group created to encourage literacy among African American and Latina girls.
